About Us
The Sisters of Saint Joseph of the Sacred Heart are a Catholic religious congregation involved in a variety of charitable ministries including education, social justice, caring and healing, advocacy and providing support for children and families. Founded in Penola, South Australia in 1866, and inspired by their founder, Saint Mary MacKillop, the Sisters of Saint Joseph of the Sacred Heart continue to minister throughout Australia and overseas, responding to the needs of others, wherever they are.
About the Position
Reporting to the Victoria-Tasmania Regional Leader, the Operations Manager is a pivotal, hands-on role responsible for the support, care and wellbeing of Religious Sisters located primarily in the Melbourne metropolitan area with a small number of Sisters located in Tasmania.

You will oversee the management of the congregation’s properties, both owned or leased, ensuring they are well maintained, meeting compliance requirements and refurbished as and when needed. The congregation has a fleet of vehicles, and so the Operations Manager will manage and administer all matters in relation to that fleet including usage, insurances, renewals, purchases and replacements.
Work, health and safety, and the management of risk are key components of this role. You will therefore ensure all operational procedures, and practices are in accordance with best practice and are in place to ensure the care, wellbeing and safety of the Sisters, allowing them to continue their ministry in the spirit of the congregation’s mission.
Central to this role will be your ability to understand and embrace the mission of the Sisters of Saint Joseph, and be willing to actively support the Sister’s purpose, vision and mission.
This position is a permanent full-time role and will be located at the Sister’s Regional Office in Hawthorn East, Melbourne. The role will require you to travel extensively within Melbourne’s metropolitan area, and occasionally to Tasmania.
About You
Key Requirements for the role include:
Strong understanding of, and an appreciation for, religious life and an openness to embrace and give witness to the Sister’s mission
Exceptional interpersonal skills, and an ability to instil confidence and build rapport with people
Relevant qualifications and/or experience in a role encompassing the key areas of responsibility of this role (e.g. financial management, property and facilities management or management of people and resources)
